2021-2022 POLICIES  FOR SOLO & DUO/TRIO
CHOREOGRAPHY & PRIVATE LESSONS

Important Information

PRIVATE LESSONS:   Private lessons to teach a dancer or dancers a solo or duo/trio serve many purposes.  First they give the students more individualized attention that is not possible during group lessons.  Students have the opportunity to develop further and gain additional stage experience.   The competition atmosphere allows students to perform in front of a panel of judges and receive adjudication which will further aid in training.   However, the outcome of competitions in regard to the award received should not be the reason to request this type of training and can be detrimental to the student.  Please have a clear understanding of why you are requesting a private to pursue performing.

REQUESTING A PRIVATE  All interested dancers MUST FILL OUT THE APPLICATION FOR PRIVATE LESSONS FORM.   THIS FORM IS AVAILABLE ON GOOGLE DOCUMENTS - PLEASE USE THE LINK AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE.   Please do not approach teachers - use the application.   You may request a particular instructor on the application. For choreography,
In House Faculty are always given first consideration.  Guest teachers are allowed only for a small amount of dancers.
All dancers must keep their account current and in good standing in order to continue your lessons and be entered into a competition.   Your monthly tuition and dance expenses payments are always the priority.

SCHEDULING YOUR PRIVATE LESSONS:  You will be contacted regarding your request.  Teachers do not start until the new season begins in late August/September.

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES   Dancers are welcome to perform at all the competitions the studio attends and can attend additional competitions at their director’s approval.  It does not entitle any performer a slot to perform at theater shows such as the Company show or the June Showcase unless specifically requested by the director of the studio.

REQUIREMENTS   Students requesting Solo or Duo/Trios need to be training at the maximum level for their age.  They must know all their Group Choreography and be attending classes regularly, displayed dedication & enthusiasm.
GROUP REQUIREMENTS:
JAZZ -   JAZZ/HIP HOP - OR CONTEMPORARY :    DANCERS MUST BE IN AT LEAST 2 GROUPS
HIP HOP DANCERS MUST BE IN AT LEAST 2 GROUPS
TAP DANCERS MUST BE IN AT LEAST 1 GROUP and have Approval from Tap Director
Tuition accounts must be paid monthly and stay current.  If tuition account falls behind more than ONE MONTH, private lessons could be suspended until further notice.  Each dancer must book a MINIMUM of 2 private lessons per month with either that instructor or have an instructor assigned if the dance was taught by a guest choreographer.   Weekly private lessons are most beneficial.   You should commit to performing your solo at each event and for the entire season – Nationals is optional due to costs.   IMPORTANT:  Any duo/trio dancer who drops the dance during the season will be required to pay ALL COSTS to the other parents of the duo/trio including private lesson time and costumes. The final total due is at the discretion of the director.

CHOREOGRAPHY RIGHTS  Once a Solo or Duo/Trio is taught at the studio, it becomes the property of DCPAC and can only be competed under the DCPAC Studio name.  In other words, any dancer who learns a routine while a student of DCPAC taught by either a faculty member or guest choreographer, can only compete that dance as a student of DCPAC.  If the student should leave DCPAC, they ARE NOT ALLOWED to compete the dance as an independent at ANY TYPE OF COMPETITION/CONVENTION or theater show.

FEES:
CHOREOGRAPHY FEES FOR SOLO & DUO/TRIO INCLUDE THE COMPLETE DANCE
AND AN ALLOTTED AMOUNT OF HOURS OF INSTRUCTION:  6 HOURS

FEES LISTED BELOW ARE TO BE PAID IN ADVANCE DIRECTLY TO THE INSTRUCTOR:
SOLO CHOREOGRAPHY FEE:  $550
DUO CHOREOGRAPHY FEE:   $325 each
TRIO CHOREOGRAPHY FEE:  $265 each
This fee covers all time with your instructor up to the allotted time agreed upon date (i.e - 6 lessons or the first competition – unless you are working with guest choreographer)    Private lessons for the remainder of the season - $40 per half hour (again – check with your instructor regarding sharing a 30-min block with another dancer, etc). YOU WILL RECEIVE 6 HOURS for this fee prior to going into private lesson fees.  CHECK WITH YOUR INSTRUCTOR REGARDING ANY ADDITIONAL POLICIES HE OR SHE MAY HAVE.  THE AMOUNT OF TIME GIVEN FOR THE FEE IS NEGOTIABLE.

Private lessons for the remainder of the season - $45 per half hour for soloists
$27 each per half hour for duos
$22 each per half hour for trios

Fees are paid to the instructor — unless a Student Teacher is involved, then you will pay the studio.  Check with your instructor regarding payment – in advance or date of lesson is preferred.   CANCELLATIONS must be called 24-hours in advance to the instructor’s cell phone or the instructor reserves the right to charge a 50% TO 100% fee for the missed appointment unless they were able to fill your time with another student.  Please check with your instructor if you have any question regarding his/her policies.

Additional Instruction   You may not “switch” to another instructor mid-year without your primary instructors consent.  In most cases, if you are allowed to work with another instructor, it will be only IN ADDITION TO the work you are doing with your primary instructor.  Breaking this rule could result in private lessons being suspended.

Cancellation Policy    CANCELLATIONS must be called 24-hours in advance to the instructor or the instructor reserves the right to charge a 50% to 100% fee for the missed appointment unless they were able to fill your time with another student.  The instructor however, may cancel at any time, with enough notice for you to not make a special trip to the studio, unless an emergency occurs.  There is no charge if the instructor cancels.  Please check with your instructor if you have any question regarding his/her policies.

Arriving Late to Your Lesson      If you arrive late for your lesson, the full charge is still due.  If the instructor is late, the time will either be made up, or the fee will be adjusted accordingly.  Check with your instructor if they are late as to the fee that day.

Cell Phone Use    You will need to have your instructor’s cell phone so you can connect with them to cancel a private.  THIS IS THE ONLY USE OF THEIR CELL PHONE THAT IS ALLOWED. Excessive cell phone use could result in additional fees and perhaps make it difficult for you to book future private lessons with that or any other instructor.  Please, please keep this in mind and be respectful of instructor’s cell phones.  If it can wait until you get to the studio, please wait!

Hiring a choreographer outside the studio faculty This is an option reserved for usually Senior Division dancers Only and must be APPROVED by the studio director.  To qualify to do this, you must have been at the maximum class load the previous year and attendance during that year will be taken into account. You should have also already executed several solos choreographed by a studio instructor in the past.  Outside choreography is reserved for dancers in most cases who have many years of previous experience and are capable of retaining the choreography and rehearsing themselves when necessary.  If you receive approval for outside choreography, all costs must be incurred by the student, including rental of the studio if applicable.  Scheduling coaching with an instructor is necessary, however, instructors are very busy with their own private lessons and if you use an outside choreographer, it could result in difficulty scheduling lessons.  Most instructors choreograph their own pieces and those students must remain their priority.

CHOREOGRAPHY RIGHTS    All choreography (including guest choreography) becomes the property of Dance Connection Performing Arts Centre.  Any dancer who learns a routine while a student of DCPAC taught by either a current faculty member of guest choreographer, can only compete that dance as a student of DCPAC, unless permission is granted to do otherwise (in the case of a move to another state, etc).  If the student leaves DCPAC, they agree that they ARE NOT ALLOWED to compete the dance as an independent at ANY TYPE OF COMPETITION/CONVENTION or THEATER SHOW
