JAZZ, CONTEMPORARY & TAP DIVISION
JAZZ & CONTEMPORARY PROGRAM
DCPAC offers one of the largest and finest jazz & contemporary programs in the East Bay.
Instructed by our very strong and experienced faculty including Kaylee Johnson,
Jonathan Mercer, and Katelyn Rattaro.
The style of Jazz is one of the most important and fundamental techniques alongside Ballet. The characteristics that make the style very unique are hard hitting, sharp, confident, and unique qualities in the movement. Our studio is here to show you that we train dancers that are stronger in all areas of dance rather than just jazz due to the well-rounded program of dance we offer. The style of Contemporary is more expressive and modern and is currently very popular due toTV shows like SYTYCD AND WORLD OF DANCE. It requires a ballet base the same as jazz for technique. It is more of a "story telling" form of dance and fun for all to study and master.
We offer CONTEMPORARY style of dance within the Jazz Division program which goes hand in hand when it comes to training. Our students move up excellent through the jazz program because they are cross-trained in ballet, contemporary, stretch/ strength, tap and hip hop.
JAZZ / CONTEMPORARY DRESS CODE: Girls and boys wear any style comfortable clothing-Leggings, bike shorts or athletic pants.
SHOES: Slip on jazz or half soles. Black or tan--Please No socks only
TAP PROGRAM
Our Tap program is one of largest in the East Bay. It carries a history of strong instructors who have contributed to developing amazing tap dancers, one who is Jonathan Mercer and is now the tap director passing on his great style and ability to young students. Marissa Jankowski is also trained by DCPAC and performed together with Jonathan and is also teaching our tap program. Jonathan has performed professionally around the world for several Cruise Lines
and in the National Tour of CATS!!
Tap is a great form of dance for students who want to develop a strong ear for music, increase musicality, understand complex rhythms, and MAKE MUSIC WITH THEIR FEET!! We strongly recommend tap for all dancers who want to become "triple threat" dancers and conquer every style of dance! Or -- for those who just love tap, tap class is all that is needed to become a master tapper!! DCPAC offers a program that will ensure you can become just that!
TAP DRESS CODE: Comfortable clothing and Tap shoes--no slipon style please--only tie style.
