ODYSSEY DANCE COMPANY Founded in 1984, the Odyssey Dance Company, directed by Paula Henson, has performed all over the United States in places such as New York, Florida, Las Vegas, and Texas. They have been featured in articles in the Contra Costa Times and Dance Teacher Magazine. Their most recent accomplishment is being awarded the Grand Champions of Showstopper National Competition in 2008, a very prestigious accolade. They have worked with several guest choreographers through the years including Marguerite Derricks (famous movie choreographer) Liz Imperio (JLo, Gloria Estefan, Madonna) and Nick Lazzarini (Grand Champion of So You Think You Can Dance) Some of their memorable moments include, performing at National Dance Week at the Herbst Theater in San Francisco, featured performers at the Cast Party for the national tour of Ragtime, guest performers on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines various times in to standing-room only audiences, and being invited to perform at Disneyworld in Florida, and for Bowl Games of America. They have opened for Jessica Simpson and The Temptations. Members of the company through the years have received many scholarships and awards including full private-college scholarships. Several have also gone on to professional careers performing on Broadway, Television, Videos, Movies, and Tours with Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, Gloria Estefan, and more (see alumni page) They find great joy in returning the studio to teach and share their experiences, inspiring all the students at the studio! |
