Dawn Farry is a well-known and beloved Bay Area Music Instructor of Private Singing and Piano for nearly 30 years!
Let Dawn guide your student to a place where "dreams come true"...and the earlier the better! :)
Dawn Farry has trained singers who have gone on to successful careers as stars in musical theater, opera and creating their own original and cover bands in the Bay Area and beyond. She collaborates primarily with Dance Connection Performing Arts and volunteers her time with other community music programs such as Stars 2000 and Star Quest.
Dawn's loving and trusting relationship with her students create an environment for fun and progressive development, along with continued love and appreciation for music. Recital opportunities and Dance Connection's "June Showcase" are optional for students ready for such experience and always conducted in a nurturing environment.
Dawn was trained at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and holds a Masters Degree in Vocal Performance. She is an expert at teaching fundamentals in both singing and piano. She has performed as soloist throughout the Bay Area and many parts of the West Coast as the title roles in Carmen, Tosca and Rosina from "The Barber of Seville," to name a few, with many musical organizations, and to critical acclaim. (Please read more about her and her reviews on the "Bio" page at www.viviamo-opera.com) Dawn is experienced with many singing genre including musical theater, opera, rock 'n roll, pop, choral, gospel and jazz. She has a large library of music and can accompany her students during lessons. Backing tracks and other accompaniments are used while learning to sing well via specific fundamentals and vocal exercises used each lesson. All these qualifications and methods are used to bring out the "open and free" voice capable of all voices - and the goal to express feelings and spirits through singing!
Dawn has studied piano since she was seven years old and teaches sound fundamentals and techniques to ensure all students are able to read music, understand theory, begin to compose and experiment with improvisation. She uses an excellent and visually delightful piano series created by Bastien for beginners and supplements with music that is of interest to each student. For more skilled students, Dawn presents new repertoire and more intense study of theory and technical exercises. The sky is the limit! The goal is proficiency at the keyboard and ability to use skills for composing, accompanying and simple enjoyment for a lifetime. If you don't learn piano when one is young, it often never happens. AND added benefits to brain development for math and languages are proven with the study of piano! Win-win-win!
Dawn is more than happy and dedicated to teach all skill levels and ages. Classes are booked on a private lesson basis and held in our vocal lesson room located on the second level next to Studio 5. This opportunity helps dancers increase their skills to become a "triple threat" and also participate in the Song and Dance category at local competitions.
